10.09.2019 / Explore It

Today we explored how objects can be elevated both visually and practically through the way they are held presented packaged or displayed. When we were doing this, we used some vegetables for example 3 lemon, 1 watermelon and 1 pack of cherry tomatoes. Firstly we observed and sketched some different packaging systems then took some photos for being a recommend to our designs. I felt very stressful during this project because of working with so many constraints. Time was limited, so we couldn't think too much about what we were going to do. For this reason, I used the simplest methods in my studies. This situation more affected the 3D modeling part because we had only paper and wooden rods. The design part was easier, I designed it as I wanted and did not care for it to stand. I think this was the biggest problem between the two parts. As well as this helped us to generate ideas because we have learned to design with limited possibilities. I would like to say that I like to come up with new project's ideas inspired by the ideas given so I enjoyed the lecture part most. After that, I am planning to be more realistic in my designs.

11.09.2019 / Build It

I liked more “Build It” than others because we researched and observed a lot of architectural designs during this project. I inspired by Olafur Eliasson's model room in my work. At the same time, we worked with a group so I got a lot of different ideas from other people but sometimes I felt restless when my ideas were not accepted. I enjoyed when I was doing the 3D model by using the bamboo. We used 30 longer and 27 shorter bamboos for our design. I started to create basic shapes but then my group mates and I decided to create a more complicated and large structure like a platonic solids by combining all the parts we made. This part was harder than I expected because “sturdiness” was the main point so we gave more importance to this. During this project, I understood and observed the relationship between shapes and structures are very important because according to me, aesthetics is very important in a structure. The aesthetic appearance of the structure affects people and this situation occurs with the help of the shapes. When I made my 3D model, I saw that 4-sided shapes are strongest for sturdiness but In terms of design, triangular shapes are more attractive as visually. At the end of the project, I think we did the best we could. However, we still have shortcomings in achieving balance but our 3D model’s design was interesting.

12.09.2019

Today we talked about three different types of people;  The Connector, The Expert and The Polymath. I learned, The connector is a person who is able to make connections between what seem to be very different and disparate people and ideas. They are the ones who seem to know everyone, and are always trying to connect people and their ideas. An expert more generally, is a person with extensive knowledge or ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular area of study and lastly, the polymath is a person with vast knowledge in many different disciplines. We discussed  the common characteristics and differences of the designers, craftsperson and artists and we used specific questions for the analysis these people.

We did diagram and we have demonstrated the characteristics of these people.

13.09.2019 / Wear It

In my opinion, Wear it the project was very difficult because I don't find myself good enough in jewelry designs. During the wear it projects, We based on the concepts of "suspend", "surround" and "support". These concepts reminded me of facial jewelry. Since it was a one-day project, my research part was not very detailed so I've had trouble sometimes. In my works, I inspired by Akiko Shinto's facial jewelers. In the design part, I focused on eyebrows and eyes. I did a lot of different sketches but then my group mates liked the idea of the artificial eyebrow. This idea came to mind from eyebrow trends that are fashionable today. People suffer a lot of pain to get their eyebrows and often can't change because of their persistence so I designed an artificial eyebrow. Then I knit with paper sticks and fastened the eyebrows with a wire. The reason I used this material was that I had seen it in Büyükünal's works and it was easily shaped. At the end of the day, I tried my product on my friends. As a result, the hard part of the project was the idea stage, I was stuck because I wanted to do something different. In the next project, I plan not to think too much but I still see a great improvement in myself compared to the first week. I'm more organized and I am not confused because I follow the instructions more carefully and in this case, I believe that my project's quality improves.
