Contextual Review 1

NETWORKS IN OUR LIVES

"When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion." We have to begin with small steps to change things completely. First, we have to find the problems; then do research about them and generate new ideas for a solution. My work predicated on that quote. Starting with a little problem, I built my spider webs. As an outcome, I plan to do an architectural study; my biggest problem was the lack of communication between the environment and people. For this reason, my research focused on the reduction of green spaces, and the communication between skyscrapers and people. The idea of building a pavilion came from these researches. According to me, it was an area that allowed people to socialize and take them away from the city life for a while. In doing so, I determined to benefit from the form of spider webs, such as Koike and Poenisch's Nested Skyscraper. I prefer to use metaphors and attribute a meaning to every work I do. Therefore, this part of my project was my strength. My researches gave me a lot of inspiration for designing, I gained a new perspective, and I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the terminology of "Green Architecture". What makes my project unique is consisting of messages and making people think. This is where my dreams and goals intersect. Before I started, I had goals such as producing original works, being helpful to other people, making them think, and realizing my aims by means of utilizing new techniques. And now I am on that long road, taking a journey to a point further than my actual target. and at speed I have never imagined before. I can clearly see the reflection of this in all my ideas and works in each step I take once again.

Initially, I was wandering in a particular circle, and could not dare to get out of that circle.  I discovered that I stumbled while trying to practice what was taught to me. I decided to change my perspective and started using different strategies in my projects; I have included more than one source in each assignment, got inspired, visited exhibitions, and delivered outputs that reflect my ideas at the end of each project. For instance, I designed a library based on light reflection and tried to explain lighting in this way. Based on Narcissism, I designed a bank; aiming to make feel humiliation and arrogance. In doing so, I went back to the starting point to become better and improve my project. Afterward, I investigate again from the beginning as if I had never done any research since I strongly believe that is the only way to make a progress. During my studies, the most crucial thing I have learned was that I had to apply the method of "induction", not "deduction", as I was always trying to break a puzzle and examine it, and then I got lost. Especially during my Illuminination research, I started to apply this method, and since then, I realized that my work received more positive feedback than before.

Projects that I have done this year encouraged me to develop my ideas and gather them. I came out of my orbit, and explored the concept of green architecture, and I was hesitant about what to do next. Later, I found myself in a different situation recalling the people. I finally decided to make my way out of this black hole. I chose to build a pavilion to reduce environmental problems, encourage people to live within nature, and socialize. Spider webs actually lay beneath each concept, such as networks among people, between the environment and people, and between architecture and the environment. For this reason, I desired to transfer the metaphor to people through networks, and I always used the networks throughout the design of my pavilion. I strongly believe that I have established the relationship between this project and the path I choose in part 2, despite having no architectural knowledge, and have demonstrated my goals and aspirations.

In the beginning of this year, I had one goal: to be an architect. However, when I look back, I laugh at myself, I learned various techniques, diverse points of view and methods that I cannot count as a result of the five-week training. I have used every single information at one point and now I comprehend that if I really want to be a creative architect, my aim has to be "implementing everything I've learned and working on how to actualize". Due to that reason, I will pursue the idea. Hence, I focus on expanding the projects and creating significant works attending distinct workshops instead of using small pieces. I intend to apply more materials, such as metal or glass, to include more books in my research, especially when achieving these ideas. I would like to implement these objectives in the field of architecture and continue my work on this pathway. To conclude, I have taken the first step to build my spider webs to capture the lion and become one of the Green Architects who have applied "sustainable architecture."
