Explore It

Firstly, I thought about storage conditions and did a short research on it. Then I listed them as items.

Preservation and storage methods are very important for consuming fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables. In this way, we can use our fruits and vegetables with the flavor of the first day at any time.

What should we pay attention to when storing vegetables and fruits?

- Perforated containers as storage containers.

- Don't keep fruits and vegetables together!

- Onions, garlic, potatoes and tomatoes should be kept at room temperature!

"Packaging is so much more than just protecting a product. It's an essential marketing tool, which supports branding, emphasizes the product's best features and creates an unforgettable experience for the customer."

Kwiatkowski, Konrad. “The Importance of Product Packaging.” Fleximize, 15 Jan. 2019, https://fleximize.com/articles/012727/the-importance-of-product-packaging

I chose this quote because it showed me that packaging can be design objects at the same time so I will use this idea in my designs.

Example of Packaging Designs :

I researched about packaging but I didn't find enough informations or designs for it because a lot of product was anonymous so I decided to continue my research by visiting the markets.

My Sketches :

I used these sketches and researches as an idea for my final project designs. I prepared some packaging designs for tomatoes, watermelon and lemons.

London Design Fair

London Design Fair

After this week, I went to the "London Design Fair" to help the Turkish designer's stand. In the fair, the "Potato recycling" project impressed me very much. When I see this work, I remembered to Explore it a project because I worked on vegetables and fruits so I've done a lot of research on their storage conditions but did not know that potatoes could be glasses with recycling. I'm interested in the fact that even damaged vegetables can be used in some way so I wanted to share this exhibition.

Live from SOE is a series of livestream episodes, conceived for Olafur’s exhibition 'In real life' at Tate Modern in summer-fall 2019. Streaming every other week for 30 minutes directly from the studio, this is a chance to give us a view into our everyday life and what it means to make artworks, exhibitions, commissions, and works in public space with Olafur.

The second episode – titled 'Advanced geometry‘ – was streamed live into Tate Modern on 28 Aug 2019. The episode looked at how they work with geometry research and model-making, and how this research is eventually turned into artworks.

This video reminded me "Built it" project because they are creating a new product by combining two different geometric shapes. I learned some different forms from this video and especially the models made from babmboo bars in the video inspired me. Then I started to drawings for the model.

"This case contains around 450 models, prototypes and geometric studies of various sizes.Together, they form a record of Olafur Eliasson's work with his studio team and with Icelandic artist, mathematician and architecth Einar Thorstein  (1942-2015). "

"Between 1996 and 2014 Thorstein and Eliasson collaborated on several projects and researched the geometric forms, symmetries and ratios that structure a number of Eliasson's sculptures and pavilions. One of the modular shapes you see here, for example , is a study for Your Spiral view 2002 which is installed in this exhibition. "

I went to this exhibition because after I watched the SOE video I got some information about the process and it was not enough so I decided to visit it. During this exhibition, I have discovered products made of different geometric shapes, I observed their development processes and also I learned some modeling techniques. It gives me a lot of ideas for our one-day project. I am planing to do two different products in one piece.

"Model Room" reminded me of Saraceno's sculpture. Five or six years ago, I went to the "Contemporary" exhibition in Istanbul Modern and I visited the artist's work. Sculpture's shapes are very similar to the work in the "Model Room" so I wanted to use it as a form's idea.

Akiko Shinzato

Akiko Shinzato’s jewelry is more conceptual than it is practical, making for delicate pieces of art that adorn the body and face. The artist, based in Okinawa, Japan, first contemplated studying fashion, before coming across contemporary jewelry and studying jewelry design at Central Saint Martins (CSM) in London.

“I think jewelry is an interesting medium because it’s worn on a body,” she explained.

In my jeweler practice, I try to explore how a piece of jewelry can interact with human body and am always looking for new functions and new ways of wearing it. It’s exciting for me to create a piece of jewelry that can highlight and celebrate a part of your body which you never thought could be a piece of jewelry.”

In one of her latest collections, tagged aptly as “Self Confidence Boosters”, Shinzato created ironic pieces of jewelry that aim to do just that. “Making this collection, I imagined what might happen if Japanese education starts pushing student’s confidence at school,” she explained.

“This collection is a little bit ironic and shows Japanese inflexible education in a way. Although it looks like boosting and helping your confidence, the piece actually limits the body movements and forces you to be in a particular position.”

Shinto's ideas impressed me very much, I started designing facial jewelry based on her ideas. Eye accessories made with wire was my favorite so When I was designing, I focused on the eyebrows and eyes. I got material ideas from her works.
